From the Same Mold is a solo exhibition of new work by artist Leor Alon. By casting the same figure with various materials, Alon explores the dialecticism of human conflict and unity.

The exhibition features more than 20 monumental humanoid heads, each made of a unique material (plaster, steel, carpet, etc.). The work is a material and humanistic investigation for Alon, the sculptures stand in for complex codes of compartmentalization we encounter in life – be they race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and many others. Through his insistence to cast everything from the same mold, Alon aims to highlight a unifying narrative of humanity beyond its differences on the surface.

Leor Alon is a Los Angeles based artist working primarily in sculpture. Alon is a first generation American of Russian Israeli descent. His culturally rich upbringing influences his work through observing first hand culture clashes, international conflict, and global racism. By questioning his own position and the tension throughout his own cultural history, his work envisions the unification of all humanity.

From the Same Mold is supported by Farber Grant for Student Excellence. The exhibition will be on view in Helen Lindurst Fine Arts Gallery from March 25th through April 5th, 2019, with an opening reception on March 28th, 2019 from 6-9PM. Helen Lindhurst Fine Arts Gallery is located on first floor of Watt Hall, University of Southern California. The gallery is open 8:30AM-5PM Monday to Friday and visits outside of regular operating hours may be scheduled upon request.
