OCHI is pleased to present Interludes, a group exhibition featuring works by Ohan Breiding, Tanya Brodsky, James Castle, AJ Collins, Langley Fox, and Kelly Wall. The exhibition will be on view at OCHI, located at 3301 West Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles, California from May 31 through June 28. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 31st from 5 – 7 PM.

Interludes gathers six artists whose work dwells in charged stillness of domestic interiors. Across painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography, these works conjure cinematic tension —quiet, uninhabited rooms where something momentous seems to have just happened or is just about to – sculptural objects extracted from their original setting are mysterious props with a story to tell.

Inspired in part by the poetics of Gaston Bachelard and the disquieting compositions of David Lynch, the exhibition explores the uncanny within the familiar, the threshold between private and public, and the psychological weight of rooms. Figures are absent, but presence lingers. The works act as visual intermissions—intervals that ask the viewer to sit with ambiguity, attune to atmosphere, and read into silence.

A creature that hides and ‘withdraws into its shell,’ is preparing a ‘way out.’
By staying in the motionlessness of its shell, the creature is preparing temporal explosions, not to say whirlwinds, of being.

—Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

In these anticipatory moments, form becomes a threshold — between inside and outside, clarity and concealment, presence and memory. Sound detaches from image, and narrative dissolves into mood. These are spaces of containment and potential rupture, where what’s buried threatens to resurface, and what’s visible is never quite revealed. The exhibition lingers in the emotional afterimage of the ordinary – moments of stillness that hold the possibility of movement. Interludes does not tell stories; it listens for them.
