Esto Somos (This is us) is the first duo exhibition by painter Elizabeth Munzón and printmaker Edgar Martínez opening with a reception on Saturday January 14th from 6-9pm at the Artist Coop in Long Beach, Ca. This exhibition will feature new and collaborative works inspired by their individual art practice and shared viewpoints and experiences.
At the forefront of this exhibition are collaborative pieces that merge oil painting and printmaking, symbolic for the attraction of opposition that is true for the artists long standing partnership and new venture into artistic partnership.
Elizabeth Munzón (b.1990) is a Mexican-American oil painter. Her paintings explore the parallels between Mexican pre-hispanic mythologies and the people and moments in her life. Munzón was born in the San Fernando Valley and raised in Sylmar, a suburb of Los Angeles, then moved to Long Beach CA to pursue an art education. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) with an emphasis in Figurative Painting and Drawing and a minor in Marketing from California State University, Long Beach in 2017. She currently lives and works in Long Beach Ca where she founded Munzón Gallery in 2022. The gallery doubles as her working studio.
Edgar Martinez (b.1990) is a Mexican-American Printmaker. His Lino Cut Prints are informed and influenced by his environment as well as his immediate surroundings. Martinez’s work often addresses his Mexican American ethnic identity and culture. In addition to relief prints he explores film photography. He lives and works in Long Beach, California and is represented by Munzón Gallery.
