Opening Reception Unveils Exclusive ERICA TANOV Artist Collaboration, “Nature Studies”: An Exquisite Clothing Collection and a Group Art Show

Featuring Three San Francisco Bay Area Artists
JESSICA ABBOTT WILLIAMS, DHARMA STRASSER MACCOLL, and EMILY PAYNE

Meet the Artists and Designer

An opening reception to launch an exclusive artist collaboration between Berkeley clothing and lifestyle designer ERICA TANOV and San Francisco Bay Area artists JESSICA ABBOTT WILLIAMS, DHARMA STRASSER MACCOLL, and EMILY PAYNE. The collaboration has resulted in rare nature-inspired textile prints on silk, created from original artworks, which are the inspirations for Erica Tanov’s new Nature Studies clothing collection. A group show of original botanical-themed artworks of mixed media by the artists will also be on display, and for sale, at the opening reception, and will travel to Erica Tanov boutiques.

JESSICA ABBOTT WILLIAMS
Jessica will be exhibiting her original artwork, ‘Ink Floral’, featured in the Erica Tanov clothing collection: a single floral motif expressed in a walnut ink drawing. Other original botanical-inspired walnut ink drawings and iridescent watercolor paintings, some on wood, will be exhibited and available for sale. Some ceramic vessels by the artist will also be shown with the paintings.

DHARMA STRASSER MACCOLL:
Dharma will be showing gouache on paper, (as well as mixed media work on paper at the Berkeley store). MacColl’s recent works on paper start with painted marks in gouache and culminate in multi-layered surfaces to which she has added other materials such as porcelain, clay, thread, felt, leather and even feathers. The physical properties of the materials are a primary focus in some works, while in others, it is the capacity for communicating motion through an accumulation of lines or marks. MacColl strikes a thoughtful balance between the abstract and the referential as objects from real life morph into gestural patterns and tactile compositions.

EMILY PAYNE: Emily will be showing botanical-themed works including “Pine 2,” graphite on book boards, 12 x 12 inches, as featured in the textiles of the Erica Tanov Nature Studies clothing collection. As a painter and sculptor, the Berkeley artist draws inspiration from natural forms such as seeds, tree branches and feats of nature like bird nests and spider webs. The repeated forms she paints and sculpts are often serene and elemental in feel and explore themes of dimensionality, motion and dynamics in space.
