Join Nila Faith Frederiksen on December 14th and experience her debut solo art exhibition featuring 21 of her pen, marker, and pencil drawings from the past year. Enjoy an evening of art and wine while stepping into the lucid zone between realism and surrealism, expressed through immense detailing, popping colors, and curiosity-invoking themes of hyper-awareness and the connectedness of all nature.

“A lifelike, vivid, and colorful dream, Nila takes the real and teases out the imagination that plays subtly below the surface. Through use of color and realism, she transports us to a world behind the veil of normal consciousness, a familiar place, a space nearly forgotten during waking hours and then suddenly remembered.” -Kel Fisher

Along with all original works on display, two limited edition prints will be available for purchase at the show.

Artist Statement:
“I have always been drawn to portraits as it is within the ability of the artist to recreate both a face and the energy coming from it. I find that most energy comes from the eyes, so my technique in creating portraits with double sets of eyes has developed over the last three years in order to bring a spiritual point of view into my subjects; I want as much of them present as possible in their renditions, as the double eyes are a statement on expanding perspective beyond the typical lens of accumulated experiences. They are also an expression of the hyper-awareness I experience in viewing myself and the world around me. The eyes I place on the wings of butterflies and moths represent flight of the mind, along with the connection of all life and the beauty of nature. I use my own eyes as reference for these as I am the butterfly–growing and metamorphosing every day. Often finding inspiration in the inner workings of my own mind, which manifests into totality-embodying symmetrical designs, and also regularly discovering visions in the world around me, I draw people, things, and feelings that make me especially excited about being alive.”

Bio:
Born and raised in Nashville, TN, Frederiksen’s creativity was consistently fueled, encouraged, and supported by her mother, artist Marla Faith. After finding solace in drawing in high school, she went on to study for a semester at Otis College of Art and Design in 2014. Nila then traveled while working on her craft, spending lengths of time in Big Sur, CA and New Zealand before settling back into Los Angeles in 2017. Frederiksen has been making art throughout her life, and at twenty two years old, her expression continues to deepen. Nila’s contemporary take on pop art, surrealism, and psychedelia, paired with borderline neurotic precision, is unique and ever-evolving. She is thrilled to present her debut show in Los Angeles this December.
