DON’T LOOK Projects is pleased to host Good Naked, a New York-based roving exhibition program curated by Jaqueline Cedar, at the DON’T LOOK Annex in Culver City. DESERT ISLAND is a group exhibition opening Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 5 – 8 pm at 2680 S La Cienega Blvd.
The artworks in this exhibition picture liminal spaces within quietly jarring structures. Layered imagery, ghost-like prints of silhouetted subjects, and altered bodies/states abound. The works speak to an experience of living and creating both individual and proliferated. Scenes are familiar and unsettling in their reflection of personal memory and imagined worlds.
Vanessa Chow and Caitlin Parker engage with natural materials and dyes as they develop works quite literally rooted in the rhythms of plant life and growth. Organic forms are embodied via process as both artists develop and cultivate their own ingredients for making.
Michael Zadowicz, Yezi Lou, Annabel Osberg, and Jenn Hitchings engage with imagined landscapes via varying degrees of real and surreal. Zadowicz’s approach encourages a slowness in looking as he renders textured surfaces with a softness that reveals deep thought and intention. Lou and Osberg experiment with scale shifts and macro perspectives as they explore daily sightings from oblique angles. Hitchings hints at symbolic forms as she utilizes expressive color and movement to communicate a mythological connection between natural and corporal existence – her highly considered palettes yield transportive atmospheres.
Raina Lee, Kate Rusek, and Hallie McNeill explore a variety of sculptural media. Lee focuses on texture via Stoneware and glazes in a series of works titled to suggest yearning and impatience with time passing. McNeill invokes the body in her porous installations, considering discarded/opaque versus unseen/forgotten forms. Rusek selects found materials to construct forms that reference biological figures and aerial views.
Nina Klein’s paintings present abstracted and ephemeral entry points where celestial and architectural bodies become spaces of expansion and transformation.
DESERT ISLAND will offer viewers room to pause and reflect as myriad surfaces call attention to our own states of existence and encourage entry into other worlds.
DESERT ISLAND will be on view by appointment January 31 – March 1, 2026.
