Reception + Book-signing to follow
In celebration of her new book Decolonizing Culture, please join 18th Street Arts Center for a book launch and conversation with Artistic Director Anuradha Vikram. She will be joined by artist and editor Bean Gilsdorf.
Published by Art Practical and Sming Sming Books, Anuradha Vikram’s Decolonizing Culture includes seventeen essays that address questions of race and gender parity in contemporary art spaces. All of these essays originated in Vikram’s long-running column #Hashtags on Art Practical (formerly Daily Serving). Through her work, Vikram examines misguided institutional efforts toward inclusivity as well as artists who enact social progress through the creation of art.
She will be joined by artist, writer, and editor Bean Gilsdorf, who served as editor-in-chief of Daily Serving until 2017 and oversaw the publication of #Hashtags from 2013 – 2017.
Copies of Decolonizing Culture will be available for purchase; light reception and book-signing to follow the conversation.
