Matter Studio Gallery, 5080 W Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, will be hosting Dale Brockman Davis’ “Catalyst of Matter” Closing Reception on Sunday March 20, 2022, from 4pm to 6pm.

Mr. Davis’ artwork challenges the viewer to look deeper at the familiar, to take notice of unexpected connections. His open-mindedness and curiosity have led him to sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and jewelry design. He has taught these disciplines in numerous venues, most notably teaching art at Dorsey High School for thirty years in his Crenshaw neighborhood.

Dale Brockman Davis, featured in the Hammer museum’s “Now Dig This!: Art and Black Los Angeles, 1960-1980”, established a special place in Los Angeles’ art history when in 1967 he and his brother Alonzo opened their Brockman Gallery in Leimert Park Village offering an exhibition space for artists of color including Betye Saar, Noah Purifoy and Charles Wilbert White. Davis donated the Brockman Gallery Archive to the Los Angeles Public Library in 2019.

Today, in addition to actively creating and exhibiting art, Mr. Davis leads forums at The Broad, Hammer Museum, LACMA, and most recently at the LA Art Show 2022.

“I am trying to show that I can take anything, given the proper mindset and skills, and elevate it to a level of maximum potential. I am attempting to shine a light on objects and things that have been considered to have no value after they have been used or discarded, proving that they do matter. Their function merely is a catalyst for change, it’s a new point of view, as we are always in a state of transformation, leaning ever more towards greater compassion and understanding of one another.”
