
CoutureMash, opening Saturday, November 17, 2018, 7pm to 10pm examines the relationship between art and fashion with works that explore patterns, portraits, shapes and textiles. The show will feature artworks from Ron Athey & Sean Griffin, Sharon Bell, Katherine Brannock, Lavialle Campbell, Golgo 13, Marian Liddell, Haleh Mashian, Patrick Nagel, Melanie Pullen, Leigh Salgado, Aaron Smith, Anise Stevens, Vakseen and Andy Warhol.
On opening night CoutureMash breaks the idea of the gallery as a white cube and illuminates the link between process of artists and fashion designers with runway fashion show featuring three Los Angeles-based designers: debut fashion line Maison H, with Laura Byrnes (Pin Up Girl Clothing, Couture for Every Body) and Monah Li known for her deconstructed feminine designs. The ensembles will be modeled by a number of the artists whose works hang in the exhibition. From Arts & Crafts to abstract, figurative to the fantastic, emerging and established artists expand upon the cross-pollination of art and fashion and the impact of these two fields upon each other.
The runway show, beginning at 8:30pm, plays upon the idea of artists as icons and artists as role models. The artists are known for their work that reflect aspects of fashion, be it working with textures, patterns, fabrics or the semiotics of fashion, and the designers have created ensembles that reflect and expands upon the artwork in the show.
In addition to contemporary artists, CoutureMash will exhibit works by Patrick Nagel and Andy Warhol, highlighting these artists impact on art, fashion, and culture over five decades.
