Corita Kent, reknowned artist, educator, advocate for social justice and former nun will be celebrated by the Corita Art Center on Nov. 10 to mark what would have been her 100th birthday. Corita 100 Celebration will showcase a temporary exhibit of some of Kent’s seminal works, never-before-seen photos of the artist, interactive art-making stations for guests to create their own masterpieces, and an over-sized birthday card that will be created on-site by event guests. Also on display will be a series of box towers, stemming from the lettering and design course she taught at Immaculate Heart College while pursuing her master’s degree at USC. The towers are created by Loyola Marymount University art therapy and Dolores Mission School students as well as participants in the Homeboy Industries Art Heals program. $25 general; $100 VIP – For tickets go to: www.Corita.org/birthday
