‘Freedom Matters’ consists of Paintings, mixed media and Collage works by artist Joan Scheibel.
In her recent works, Scheibel uses many personal symbols as she playfully and poignantly explores light, texture, memory and personal mantras that reflect and inform her experience. Each mark added intuitively and reflectively, as she brings out a seductiveness and
ephemeralness that draws the viewers in and leaves them wanting more.
“There’s always this seductive tension between what I intend versus what I’m creating. When I’m finished, something surprises me, something that brings the whole piece together is revealed. This is the moment you paint for, when effort and exertion give way to a divine creation. It was there all along, I just had to find it.”
