The artists and faculty of Claremont Graduate University welcome you to their Open Studios on May 5, 2019 from 12pm-5pm.
One day a year, CGU Art opens its doors to the public. Visitors get an inside look into artists’ daily lives. Open Studios is an opportunity to meet our students, see their work, and have a conversation about their practice.
This year, 32 students will be presenting their works at Open Studios. Curated exhibitions and artists’ spaces will be open all day. Exhibitions will feature CGU’s graduating class in the East and Peggy Phelps Galleries, a first year group show, and a variety of collaborative projects throughout the building.
The studios at Claremont Graduate University are spacious, light-filled, and are central to the program. Various styles of artwork are presented including: painting, sculpture, pottery, photography, installation, conceptual, and interdisciplinary.
CGU Art challenges convention, celebrates individual endeavors, fosters collaboration and encourages making art that matters. The Art Department at Claremont Graduate University treats art as an enterprise that is intimately linked to the individuals who make it, often in ways that are not yet known to themselves or others. Its mission is to teach the artist to think clearly and deeply about what they are doing in the studio and what the results of their labors might be when exhibited out in the world.
You are cordially invited to Open Studios at Claremont Graduate University.
