Central Server Works and Volta director Mamie Green are pleased to announce the presentation of Glass House, an immersive performance investigating the psychological construction of home. Glass House continues Volta’s ethos of interdisciplinary work outside traditional dance venues, standing apart from previous work in scale and visual impact. Working with a cast of close collaborators including Whitney Biennial 2024 artist Gbenga Komolafe, writers Sammy Loren and Zoey Greenwald, and composer Patrick Shiroishi, Green approaches her interest in Jungian theories of the dream house from a diverse array of entry points.
The conceptual beginning of Glass House comes from an exploration of how our internal understanding of home, both shared and individual, can impact our physical, external reality. By allowing audiences to interact with the performance with opportunities to shift, create, and destroy aspects of the set throughout each performance, each hour-long iteration of Glass House will unfold differently.
Glass House’s ambitious amalgamation of form, bringing in a vast array of collaborators, results in an almost euphoric illustration of Jungian shared consciousness, externalizing the internal structures of our psychological homes. Closing with a DJ set from Komolafe, Glass House provides audiences with the ecstatic yet unsettling experience of bacchanalian revelry. Dancers Chadwick Auriol Gaspard, Paul Liu, Cacia Lacount, Jolyn Lambey, Avery Gerhardt will join Green.
