Captivating Holographic and Lenticular Artworks on Display – TRYST international art fair

Torrance, CA – The Tryst Art Fair, the world’s largest art fair for alternative galleries and artist-run initiatives, is thrilled to host a unique two artists exhibition by Toy Bin Art and sponsored by Torrance Art Museum and the City of Torrance featuring the exceptional works of Patrick Boyd and Steve Weinstock. This exhibition showcases the fascinating world of holographic and lenticular art.

“At Toy Bin Art, we believe that art is a treasure trove of endless possibilities, much like a toy bin filled with vibrant colors, shapes, and stories waiting to be explored,” said Grace Kim, the curator for Toy Bin Art. As we proudly present the works of Patrick Boyd and Steve Weinstock at the Tryst Art Fair, it’s important to note that their art transcends traditional boundaries. Boyd’s mastery of lenticular art, created from meticulously captured sequences of images and Weinstock’s holograms, which change in color and form as viewer moves, are true analog technological and artist innovation, inviting you to explore the boundless possibilities of visual storytelling.

Patrick Boyd, a visionary artist, masterfully constructs miniature, fictitious scenes in his studio nestled on the Welsh borders. These scenes come to life through his meticulous photography, as he captures sequences of images to craft his signature lenticular prints. Boyd’s artwork, known for its vibrant and eclectic style, is not just a visual feast but also a journey through humor, wit, and a light-hearted approach to current affairs. Some of his pieces celebrate historical milestones, like the Moon Landing, whatever the theme Boyd’s artwork acts as a reminder not to take life too seriously.

Boyd’s artistic journey is rooted in his extensive academic background, including an MA in Photography and Holography from the Royal College of Art, London, and fellowships at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, and the Museum of Holography in New York. He has also been awarded prestigious scholarships and exhibited his work in renowned galleries worldwide, from the USA to Japan.

Steve Weinstock, on the other hand, approaches holography as a medium that uniquely conveys ideas and emotions. In a 1992 interview, he expressed his initial skepticism regarding three-dimensional holograms of objects and aimed to identify the intrinsic qualities that would justify their use in artistic expression. Weinstock’s artistic goal was to explore the relationship between memory and holography. He perceived holography as a medium that could capture constantly shifting and ungraspable aspects of memory. Just as memory constantly reshapes our recollection of experiences, Weinstock saw holograms as a means to present images that change with each viewing, offering new perspectives, colors, and layers. He sought to mimic the dynamic nature of memory through holography, creating artworks that mirrored the way we see things differently every time we recall them. His holograms, illuminated by white light, showcase a distinctive feature: the image’s colors shift based on the viewer’s angle or height.

After studying holography under Hendrik Gerritsen and Don Thornton at Brown University, Steve Weinstock focused on using the Benton rainbow hologram process to create 3D shadowgrams. With influences ranging from Man Ray and Kandinsky to Berkhout and Moree, Steve explored a world of painting shadows in space with a palette of color unavailable in any other medium.

Toy Bin Art is excited to host this extraordinary exhibition, offering a chance for art aficionados to step into a world where art and technology converge. The exhibition promises to be a visual and intellectual journey that challenges perceptions, stimulates curiosity, and expands the boundaries of traditional art. Visitors will be captivated by the fusion of science and art, as presented by these two remarkable artists.

Join us at the Tryst Art Fair to view the magic of holograms and lenticular art through the lenses of Patrick Boyd and Steve Weinstock. Their captivating creations will be on display October 27, 28 & 29, where you can experience a visual symphony like no other.
