California Sober showcases 11 artists working with themes of transcendence, psychedelics, religiosity, intoxication and beauty. Evoking the transcendental painting group of the 1930s and 1940s at another unique moment of spiritual ferment and cultural change, that appears eerily timely. Exploring the urge at the heart of the California experience, both the pleasures and dangers of this mythos, with its endless cycles of renewal, against a timeless landscape of sun and sea, mountains and desert. Our choice to look deeply becomes the ultimate trip. Curated by artist Matthew Carter, California Sober features work by artists:
