“the idea of female artists coming from politically turbulent and war-torn countries being drawn to endurance/performance art is stimulating, especially in the current climate.” Martin Kudlac in SCREENANARCHY
“Adanto’s brilliant take on pacing, storytelling, and the emotional composition of a scene makes this documentary beyond riveting — as it exists as a tale of endurance and strength in expression in an age of increasingly curtailed liberties for women.”

BORN JUST NOW offers an intimate look at Marta Jovanović, a Belgrade-based artist struggling to cope with the violence that has ended an eight-year marriage. Daring to live on her own terms, Jovanović has chosen art and art-making over marriage and abuse. Through provocative acts of endurance exploring intimacy, motherhood and the trauma of the Balkan wars, she seeks to confront, release, and liberate her own pain in the name of art. This personal portrait is a moving meditation on what it means to be a fearless female artist living in the 21st century.
Born Just Now premiered at BELDOCS International Documentary Film Festival in the former Yugoslavia. It has been an Official Selection at the Prishtina International Film Festival in Kosovo, The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, and was named Best Documentary at the 2019 Arte NonStop Film Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In addition, Born Just Now was presented in conjunction with (Un)Wanted Identities: Storytelling in the Post-Yugoslav Context, at The Southeast European Future Festival at The Rich Mix Cinema Shoreditch, London, UK.
Most recently, the film has been named a Semi-Finalist in the Documentary Competition at InterDoc, the International Documentary Film Festival in Moscow, where it will screen later this month, and Born Just Now will be presented at R.E.D. International Film Festival in Eina, Norway in July.
