Bibi Davidson Statement from the Matter Studio Gallery
Although having been based in Los Angeles and having shown in the greater Los Angeles area for many years, Bibi Davidson is an Israeli born and raised artist, which has had a very substantial impact on what she creates . This is Bibi Davidson’s second show with Matter Studio Gallery. Davidson works predominantly as a painter while also incorporating collage elements, and in her most recent works exploring more sculptural mixed media elements in her pieces. Her images reference events and themes from her chaotic, unsettled, emotionally isolating childhood, as well as the challenges we all face day to day both personally, politically and universally. She often reveals a whimsical even humorous perception within the awkward turmoil and uncertainty of life. Her very recognizable “red-head” depicted most commonly in her works, shown sometimes as a young girl, sometimes woman, and sometimes both, make Davidson’s artwork very uniquely personal.
This current exhibit titled “It Fucking Matters” came about when 6 months ago Davidson experienced a terrible accident that caused her partial paralysis and the devastating uncertainty of wether she would be able to make her artwork ever again or how this experience would impact what form her artwork would take on. All those who know Bibi know that her work is truly her purpose and passion for life. It is with awe and admiration that we are able to exhibit her newest post-accident works, revealing all the hard work that she has accomplished in her recovery, along with the pieces that had already been slated for this show. Bibi Davidson’s determination and grit is a reminder to us all that everyday is precious, that we must keep moving, and that our life Fucking Matters, Art Matters and that our creative voice can heal us and the world around us.
