Jenny Hata Blumenfield is a Los Angeles based ceramic artist and curator with a rigorous
commitment to the field of ceramics. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design
with a BFA in ceramics and spent much of her twenties in New York working for an auction
house, galleries, and non-profit institutions before migrating towards the studio side of artists’
practices. Having worked closely with artists like Simone Leigh for many years before returning
to her hometown of Los Angeles, she has since launched ATLA; a gallery/platform dedicated to
the juxtaposition of Japanese contemporary art and craft with that of artists based in the West.

solo exhibitions at Diane Rosenstein Gallery, Los Angeles; Mindy Solomon Gallery, Miami; and

island of Kyushu in Southern Japan. After returning to the United States, he obtained his MA
(1979) and MFA (1981) from San Jose State University. He taught at the University of Hawaii
(1984), then moved to California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) in 1986, where for thirtyfive
years he had a studio practice and served a variety of roles, including Professor of Art
