Durden and Ray presents “Antipodal,” an examination of abstraction in the global art scene
“Antipodal” takes the expressionistic aesthetic of the 1940s and ’50s and moves it forward into a contemporary exploration by artists from Australia, California, Colorado and New York.
“The visual aspect is reminiscent but altered, updated,” said Max Presneill, who curated the show with Chris Trueman. “The content however has removed itself from subjective emotionalism alone and moved towards an historically aware and conceptually driven relationship to the act of painting.”
The 12 artists are each represented by TWFINEART in Brisbane, Australia, a contemporary art gallery with a roster of acclaimed domestic and international artists in a program that speaks to the global nature of the larger post-millennial art world.
