DESCRIPTION
In collaboration with the Tenderloin Museum, Ramon’s Tailor Gallery presents a neighborhood Walking Tour & Artist Talk, inspired by the current art installation at Ramon’s Tailor by Paz de la Calzada, entitled Alhambra S.R.O. This one-night only event is an exciting exploration of the intersection of art, architecture, history, and diaspora.

Join us at the Tenderloin Museum on January 18th at 6:00 pm for the start of this unique experience. Pam Coates, the Tenderloin Museum’s resident historian, will give an insider’s view of the Tenderloin past and present with a special emphasis on the hidden neighborhood gems influenced by Moorish Architecture. The artist will be in attendance as we retrace her journey thru the TL and share her discovery of a community full of arabic culture, mosques, restaurants, stores and buildings, including the stunning Alcazar Theater and an exclusive look inside the renowned Alhambra Apartments.

The one-hour tour leaves the Tenderloin Museum at 6:30 sharp and ends at Ramon’s Tailor Gallery where Paz will present her current work and discuss the installation. Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy a gastronomical experience curated by the artist – a pastry combining multiple cultural influences and ingredients from Arabic cuisine, Paz’s home town in Spain, and a local Yemeni restaurant.

Paz de la Calzada is a San Francisco artist who grew up in the south of Spain. Her latest project Alhambra S.R.O. is inspired by the Moorish revival style and explores cultural and sociopolitical dynamics in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Using the Alhambra Apartments building as a starting point, her work explores the contrast between contemporary aesthetics and social stigmatization. http://www.pazdelacalzada.com/
