Two major Hamptons fine art fairs are not returning in 2017: Art Hamptons and Art Southampton.
Organizers of both suspended events attributed the cancellations to market conditions and buyer fatigue.
Rick Friedman, the founder of Hamptons Expo Group, put on the inaugural Art Hamptons in Bridgehampton in 2008. In September 2015, the Atlanta-based events firm Urban Exhibitions acquired the fair and Hamptons Expo Group’s entire event portfolio, which also included Art Aspen, Houston Fine Art Fair and Palm Springs Fine Art Fair.
The ninth annual Art Hamptons last year was the first under new ownership. It was held the weekend before Fourth of July weekend with more than 50 exhibitors at Maria and Kenneth Fishel’s private property on Lumber Lane.
The fifth annual Art Southampton last year took place at Nova’s Ark Project in Water Mill the weekend after Fourth of July weekend.
Spokespeople for both fairs could not be immediately reached Thursday.
One major competing art fair is expected to return this summer: Market Art + Design is scheduled July 6 to 9 on the grounds of the Bridgehampton Museum.
