Amy Park

by | May 12, 2016

New York-based artist Amy Park, in her second solo show at Kopeikin Gallery has reproduced, in intimate and gorgeously rendered watercolors, Ed Ruscha’s 1966 seminal book project “Every Building On The Sunset Strip.” This is no easy task to be sure, and Park nails every detail in the 97-foot long work that encircles the gallery, providing both views (top and bottom) of this famous mile-and-a-half stretch of true California history. Park does however create her own vision within Ruscha’s iconic work. Working in monochrome, Park utilizes unexpected moments of abstraction within the spareness of the original landscape like small glittering gems inserted into an otherwise unadorned and familiar scene.
