Emily Adams
at CB1 Gallery
There are some works of art that produce a palpable physical sensation when considered, like scraping your knees along a seemingly never-ending dirt road, or worse, a gravel pit. Emily Adams first exhibition at cb1 succeeds masterfully with its nuanced, though mostly scratchy appeal. Working in acrylic and glitter on canvas mounted on panels, these mysterious paintings celebrate the parking lot in all its expansive majesty, or the little known Smith Lake Trailhead, (2014) a gravel road half shaded in deepening blue shadow. The paintings are simple and elegantly crafted, a strange commemoration of the rocky yet shimmering world at our feet.
