Doug Harvey, whose a regular contributor to Artillery, is also a terrific artist as his newest exhibition entitled, Found Moldy Slides, at Jancar Gallery can attest. Weirdly haunting, and sometimes just plain haunted, these images celebrate the odd, discordant moment, those strained pauses in conversation perhaps, or the instant before a lover admits to having had an affair with a tree. All is fair game for Harvey whose main interest here is documenting the process by which time decays and transforms our experience of it, and in turn our memories and perceptions. Images like “Gondola Nack” is particularly effective as two men shake hands, forging a human connection, yet slowly the man on the right is vanishing.
