Gold Bug Gallery has provided 20 artists with the same blank canvas on which to work, a heart-shaped porcelain sculpture designed and fabricated in Italy by Elica Studio. Representing some of today’s most exciting artists and innovators, the participants of this show hail from a multitude of disciplines, ranging from fine art painting to special effects prosthetic production, taxidermy to mechanical design, and sculpture to photomontage mixed media work. At first glance, an unexpected grouping of artists, but upon further examination, they are bound intimately together by their curiosity and appreciation for the natural world and the mastery of their art form. The repeated heart shape sets into contrast each pieces sameness as well as its exquisite uniqueness. The collection as a whole represents a broad swath of contemporary surrealist work, asking the viewer to reconsider what they know about the genre today.
