Glendale, January 31, 2020 — The Museum of Neon Art is proud to present New to Neon: Keeping the Craft Aglow, opening Sunday, February 2, 2020. The exhibition runs through May 24, 2020.

Education is a core mission of the Museum of Neon Art (MONA), and when designing its new $5 million facility, MONA included a fully-functional neon classroom. In the four years since opening in downtown Glendale, MONA’s faculty of accomplished craftspeople and artists have mentored hundreds of students, with the goal of keeping neon alive and growing its use as a fine arts medium. “New to Neon: Keeping the Craft Aglow” is a group exhibit of over 30 emerging artists and MONA faculty, opening February 1, 2020. Some of the artists are well-established and de- sired to add neon to their palette, while others are exhibiting for the first time. All are dedicated to the magic of neon – a unique combination of art, science, and engineering, with an admittedly steep learning curve. MONA faculty joining the exhibition include Michael Flechtner, Lyle George, Michael Hernandez, David O. Johnson, Kacie Lees, and David & Kazumi Svenson.

Opening Reception for New to Neon will be Saturday, February 1, 2020, 7:30PM-10:30PM. The reception is free for members of MONA, and $12 for non-members.
Tickets are available for advance purchase from neonmona.org or 818-696-2149.

MUSEUM OF NEON ART – The Museum of Neon Art encourages learning, curiosity and ex- pression through the preservation, collection and interpretation of neon, electric and kinetic art. Neon is a gateway between scientific principles and artistic expression. Neon illumination inte- grates electrical technology, creative design, and fundamental concepts of physics and chem- istry. The Museum of Neon Art is the only museum in the world devoted exclusively to art in electric media, exhibiting electric and kinetic fine art, and outstanding examples of historic neon signs, for over three decades. MONA opened in 1981, and in 2015 relocated to its Brand Boule- vard location across the street from Glendale’s Americana. In addition to exhibition space, the new quarters have a state-of-the-art neon fabrication classroom offering fully immersive “hands on” neon art classes.
