To close out the year in a spirit of collaboration, SoLA Contemporary presents “Experimental,” a series of two exhibitions in November and December featuring artwork by individuals in its Creative Practice membership program. The first one opens this Sunday, November 17th with a reception from 4–7 PM.
Creative Practice is a critique program that is collaborative and free style in nature where emerging and established artists work with and learn from each other for one year, culminating in a final group show. Due to the success and size of the program, SoLA has organized the exhibition into two equally impressive group shows.
“Artists oftentimes work in isolation,” says SoLA executive director Peggy Sivert. “When I was a young artist, I never got feedback from other artists. I always wanted the relationship of other artists, but not be controlled by it.”
Building a community of artists where they can receive feedback from fellow artists in a safe and welcoming environment is very important to SoLA, especially in its neighborhood of South LA where there is a wealth of unseen, deserving young talent.
