Durden and Ray and La Estación Arte Contemporáneo of Chihuahua, Mexico, present 360 Mind Games, a conceptual exploration of the freedoms, limitations — and compositions of the circle.
Throughout history, the universal archetype of the circle has represented unity and the delineation of a perfect space, transforming from the hands of artists into a structure for artistic support. The circle as a vehicle for artistic composition has navigated through space and time, changing in everything but shape: from Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo, to the spiritual altars of Hilma af Klint, color field paintings of Kenneth Noland, dot patterned work of Yayoi Kusama, minimalist forms of Judy Chicago, portals of Anish Kapoor, spin paintings of Damien Hirst, gestural rings of Takashi Murakami and others.
360 Mind Games gives us the opportunity to experience the result of this exercise in the hands of Mexican, German, and American artists through concentric composition (Fernando Rascón); mandala composition (Rocío Infestas); honeycomb composition (Christoph Dahlhausen) and spiral composition (Ismael de Anda). Each of these artists brings a unique and personal exploration to create an exhibition that is a shared world of universal artists support: the circle.
