Friday, November 8 – Sunday, November 10, 2019, Art At The Rendon presents RHYTHMS OF THE CITY, an immersive, site-specific experience that will fuse various styles of live music and dance into a simultaneous, collaborative performance that transforms the building itself into a musical instrument. Following the success of HIDDEN ROOMS and STORIES in 2018, Art At The Rendon’s latest production will highlight the musical and cultural diversity of Los Angeles, while emphasizing the synergy of the city as a whole.
100% of proceeds will benefit Play with Music, a Los Angeles nonprofit that brings music and technology education to underserved youth.
In RHYTHMS OF THE CITY, The Rendon building on the corner of E. 7th St and S. Santa Fe Ave in the DTLA Arts District will come alive with the sounds of Los Angeles. As immigrants from all over the world have relocated here to build new lives, they’ve brought their musical history with them. RHYTHMS OF THE CITY will honor that musical diversity, uniting everyone from jazz, to Afro-Cuban pop, and chamber music to mariachi bands, in a collective musical performance.
Grammy-winning composer Heitor Pereira is writing the music for RHYTHMS OF THE CITY.
With Pereira’s exceptional composition in mind, we are bringing together selected musicians from varying cultures and musical disciplines, including bands, soloists, and ensembles, to perform the work simultaneously. Through the music’s shared refrain, these diverse artists will represent Los Angeles as a whole.
