Fabrik Projects is pleased to present The Tears of Things, a solo exhibition by New Zealand photographic artist Nigel Swinn.

In Virgil’s epic poem the Aeneid, he describes Aeneas viewing a painting of the Trojan Wars and being touched by “the tears of things” — a reminder that feeling the pain of others should unite us rather than divide us and inspire us all to create a more human world for the good of future generations.

This photographic series, featuring the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand, explores the idea of better seeing and empathizing with people whose stories are concealed behind faces or reputations that all too easily play to society’s views and prejudices.
