Cathedral Presents Disasters in Progres – a collection of oil paintings by San Francisco based artist Deirdre Ferrell White. The artist’s works intertwine personal narrative with collective anxieties. The paintings are both a critique and love affair with the west coast.

Disasters in Progress touch on themes of shelter and vulnerability. There is a visual paradox of an unsustainable “American dream” juxtaposed with endless manufactured desire built on the loss and nostalgia of a dying empire. Pearl necklaces hold together shopping cart rigs, while overcrowded islands view burning disasters in the background. The paintings are equally paradoxal in their feelings of abject sorrow and and spectacular joy.
