RECEPTION: Saturday, April 20, 5-8 PM Artist Walk Thru: May 4, 3 PM
TAG Gallery is proud to present At the Still Point of the Turning World, a series of mixed media paintings and sculptural works by David Leeds. The exhibition will run April 16th – May 11th with a reception on April 27th from 5 – 8 p.m.
Leeds’ sculptural work often exists in a dual reality, the simplification of the form practiced by Brancusi and Moore with the abstraction of early African and Greek sculpture in an attempt to uncover a universal language that expresses profound truths across cultures and time.
Leeds works in both clay/bronze and stone. He studied stone carving for five years at the Art Students League in New York, under the internationally renowned sculptor, Lorrie Goulet.
His painting is heavily influenced by the Abstract-Expressionists of the late 50’s and 60’s. His canvases evoke both landscape and the primal, foundational energies of both the physical and internal world. Both his painting and sculpture reside in private collections across the U.S. and Europe.

TAG Gallery is proud to present Beyond Reflection, paintings by Douglas Teiger: a series that bucks the trend of reactionary art by evoking a spiritual sense of peace and tranquility. The exhibition will run from April 16 through May 11. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 27, 5-8 PM.
Through the tide-like push and pull of gliding colors, Teiger creates emotional landscapes, guiding the viewer through his work with careful, yet amorphous markings, imprinting a fabric-like quality directly on his canvases. In his words, “I want to come home and feel spiritually uplifted by the artwork I see around me.”
His painting process starts with a meditation asking for Spirit’s assistance in co-creating a heartfelt expression that is spiritually uplifting. During the meditation, colors come forward acting as a guide for Teiger’s mark making. “Once I begin, I am lost in the process, lost in time, flowing with Spirit. I end each painting session with a moment of gratitude acknowledging that this is what flowed through me today.”
Beyond Reflection is a sharing of meditations and colors coming though from Spirit. Teiger’s painting technique allows the oil colors to interact by chance, acknowledging that as human beings we are not ultimately in control of life but have the opportunity to participate fully, playing, learning, and evolving as we go.

TAG Gallery is proud to present Double Entendre, a new series of work from artist Taft McWhorter that blends abstract expressionist sensibilities, folk practices, and text art. McWhorter invites the viewer to spend ample time exploring each individual piece, observing the depth of texture and color as well as the hidden messages embedded and layered over and through each canvas. However, once the viewer realizes that there is unique process to this series and a hidden message to be found and understood, the experience between artist and enthusiast draws closer.
McWhorter begins each work with an “under painting” of shapes, colors, and a flurry of gestural markings harkening back to the likes of Pollock and early modernist abstract expressionists. These marks are instinctual, serving as the base for what is to come. Messages are then formed using text, allowing the negative space to fill the outline of each letter and shape. McWhorter uses this opportunity to spur his viewers to a call to action with hidden messages throughout each work.
Mcwhorter has been exhibiting his contemporary art for over a decade, amassing a dedicated group of over 500 local and international collectors. The Houston Press named him one of the Top 10 Artists in Houston in 2014. Taft also made the list of Houston’s 40 Most Fascinating People by the Houston Chronicle in 2015 for his philanthropic efforts. With over 100 exhibits under his belt, his work has now arrived on the international Art Fair stage. McWhorter has private studios in Los Angeles and Houston.
