Curatorial Text:
Some artists always seek beyond themselves, as if all answers dwelled out there, in front of their eyes. This is not the case of Marisa Dominguez, it cannot be, from the name of the show “My Little Treasures” till the execution of her works, everything is born out of recycling, the doll itself, which is chosen by the artist surrounded in her own mystery.
These are no toys, even if once they were, they’re emotions and memories that blossom together because of the artist’s obsession with a process that is slow, pondered and also based on the irrationality of its outcome. A result full of color and pearls, all made out of piercing pins and needles, as if love had roots that only savaged the soul.
On a first look, her works are sympathetic, but once we dig deeper we discover memories that howl a past, a past that might be not be a past at all, for instance, a duckling dressed in glitter over a jaded and forgotten rubber. Her work seems to be the visual form of the Eternal Return of the Greeks o just as Nietzsche said, “The sea throws everything back to the shore”. To step into Marisa’s work is to immerse ourselves in a quantic universe, where the jaded past is remember and rejuvenated. Her body of work is, in a sense, the reinvention of the human being in the midst of the battle against mortality.
