Familiar Friends is an examination of the power of relationships in creative work; perception and our ability to distinguish the images we encounter are informed by the relationships that guide us through life. We are tasked with working this out daily and it is often the way we pull from the familiar to inform new experiences and viewpoints that provides a sense of relief from what can seem like an endless cycle. The otherwordly and whimsical nature of the pieces in this exhibit express notions of friendly mythical creatures like an imaginary friend or perhaps a helpful demon. Color and abstraction are central to the way these artist present familiar forms in new ways. Some pieces may even personify new personalities in the company of the other artworks included in Familiar Friends. As this curatorial team’s second project to date, Familiar Friends seeks to explore new themes in our similar interests. Meet the crew.
