Wönzimer Gallery announces Abyss, an immersive solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Alaïa Parhizi. Through an intricate series of white ink on black canvas compositions, Parhizi invites viewers into a complex psychological landscape, turning raw emotional documentation into illusory visual spaces.
Navigating deep subconscious terrain, Parhizi maps vast spatial complexities across dark fields. These works emerge from a profoundly personal process of overcoming personal development, transforming emotional intensity into meticulously detailed, psychedelic cartography.
Requiring months of meditative labor to complete, these pieces demand a slower, more deliberate viewing experience. The exhibition invites viewers to gaze directly into the visual representation of an abyss, which serves as both an intimate journey transforming personal depths as a testament to the restorative power of creation.
About the Artist
Alaïa Parhizi was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1995 to Swiss and Iranian parents before moving to Los Angeles in 2012. He coined the philosophy of Imperfectionism in 2014 and cofounded Wönzimer with Aidan Nelson in 2018. His expansive practice unites painting, experimental audio, and curatorial work. Marking eight years of building and supporting the artistic community at Wönzimer, the gallery is thrilled to present a solo exhibition highlighting his personal artistic output.
