Gabba Gallery is pleased to present In No Particular Order, a dynamic exhibition bringing together five simultaneous solo shows by artists L. Croskey, Thrifty Davinci, Steven Lopez, John Park, and Karen Payton. Curated by Jason Ostro and Elena Jacobson, the exhibition invites visitors to move freely between five distinct artistic voices.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 8, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. On view through August 29.
L. Croskey — Paper Paradise
Paper Paradise is L. Croskey’s vibrant collage world where vintage pin-up imagery, lush botanicals, wildlife, and fragments of the contemporary urban landscape coexist in playful, dreamlike harmony. Working with meticulously layered mixed-media collage, Croskey transforms found imagery into richly detailed compositions that celebrate beauty, nostalgia, and surprise while blurring the boundaries between past and present. Paper Paradise invites viewers into an imaginative universe where the familiar is endlessly reassembled into something unexpected.
Thrifty Davinci — The Commanders of Clout
In The Commanders of Clout, Thrifty Davinci assembles an absurd army where rank is earned through designer labels instead of military achievement. By painting over vintage military illustrations with luxury fashion and streetwear iconography, the series humorously critiques a culture in which brand allegiance, consumerism, and curated identity have become the uniforms of modern life.
Steven Lopez — Natural Renegades
Steven Lopez’s Natural Renegades explores transformation through the evolving relationship between the human figure and the natural world. Flowers, insects, clouds, and geometric forms exist as part of the same living ecosystem, where identity is constantly renewed and familiar faces become something new. Through vibrant color and stylized portraiture, Lopez creates emotionally resonant paintings that invite viewers into a world where recognition and continual becoming coexist.
John Park — Memento Mori
In Memento Mori, John Park presents a striking series of mixed-media paintings on wood that intertwine portraiture, florals, and symbolic imagery. Layering vivid color with gestural mark-making and subtle references to mortality, memory, and resilience, Park invites viewers to reflect on the fleeting nature of life while celebrating its enduring beauty.
Karen Payton — Grateful & Groovy
Grateful & Groovy celebrates joy, nostalgia, and the beauty found in everyday moments through Karen Payton’s vibrant fabric appliqué compositions. Layering vintage textiles, hand stitching, and playful imagery, her work transforms familiar icons into richly textured scenes that radiate optimism, kindness, and wonder. Equal parts folk art and contemporary storytelling, these whimsical quilts invite viewers to slow down, smile, and embrace a more colorful way of seeing the world.
