Shatto Gallery is hosting the Korean artist Wang Yeul’s Exhibition “Walking Through Utopia” from June 27th to July 10th. Through a series of acrylic paintings, Wang Yeul explores the idea of utopia and its subjective interpretations. To encourage viewers to pursue their own version of utopia, Wang repurposes bamboo brush techniques and East Asian painting philosophy such as using negative space to his advantage in his sweeping landscapes. By suggesting ephemerality in loose brush strokes and softened edges in an almost dream-like quality, Wang’s paintings guide the audience to search for utopia in their own consciousness rather than to search for utopia in physical places.
