SANTA MONICA, CA — Dorado 806 Projects is proud to announce Under Pressure, a compelling dual exhibition featuring the sculptural fiber works of Loretta Bozung and the paintings of Emberly Modine. Running from February 12 through March 7, 2026, the exhibition
explores the profound intersections of biological survival and environmental adaptation. How do we inhabit a world—and a body—defined by constant pressure? Under Pressure brings Bozung and Modine into dialogue to embody the resilience and power found at the intersection of survival and adaptation, centering on the grit required to exist in a changing body and a changing world. Loretta Bozung creates out of a sense of defiant necessity. Constructed from pounds of yarn and textiles, her sculptures reflect the resilient fragility of the human condition and its capacity to sustain pain, damage, repair, and age. Wrapped, stuffed, and stretched to their absolute limit, these fibrous materials become surrogates for the porous, malleable tissues of the body.
Conversely, Emberly Modine’s paintings approach the ocean as a sentient, responsive body. Utilizing color as a visual diagnostic for systems in transition, she invites the viewer to seek their own reflection in a restless, surging sea. Waters are rendered in blues and greens that may initially feel familiar; however, their tones are subtly “off’-harboring a malicious shift beneath the surface that signals ecological and systemic imbalance.
Seen side-by-side at Dorado 806, these artists tell a visceral tale of the endurance of the flesh and the intelligence of the planet. Their practices reject the idea of fragility as weakness, instead presenting it as a site of profound, transformative strength. Together, they contemplate the temporality of existence and the defiant optimism found in thriving through the pressures of change.
Concurrently on view in the auxiliary gallery, The Rabbit Hole, will be the companion group exhibition Breathing Room featuring Andrea Bersilaglieri, Christian Rex van Minnen, Susan Feldman Tucker, and others.
