Leslie Lewis Sigler is well-known for her paintings of silver and copper flatware, vessels, molds, cookie cutters, and cutlery. Embodying individual and collective histories, these objects tell stories of the legacy of personal and familial ties. Sigler’s work memorializes and highlights the unexpected beauty of these domestic objects and stand as an invitation to see life reflected as part of an evolving lineage that crosses generations and geography, connecting us all through shared culinary traditions.

The humble cookie cutter takes on new life in these paintings. Some rendered at scale, others enormously larger than life, the paintings capture the light reflecting off the metal and the humorous randomness of all the objects that appear as cookie cutters. Many generations’ hands have held these cookie cutters or ones like them, brought together by the connecting force of food.

Leslie Lewis Sigler (b. 1983, San Marcos, TX) received a BFA from the University of Texas, Austin in 2006. Her work has been exhibition throughout the United States and appears in number private collections. The paintings have been published in American Art Collector, Content Magazine, The Santa Barbara Independent, and UPPERCASE Magazine, among others. She lives and works in Soquel, Californiaeriences she has gathered from life and literature, from places visited and places dreamt of. Her paintings are the distillation of light and shadow and form and narrative.
