Photographic Arts Council Los Angeles (PAC LA), with the support of Eastman Museum LA, is pleased to present its third event in the “Year of the Woman” series: “The Female Gaze: Women Photo Gallerists in Los Angeles” on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00pm.
Taking place at Nazraeli Press space at The REEF LA in Downtown Los Angeles, the event will feature three esteemed gallerists who, over the past thirty years, have come to define the Los Angeles photo scene: Tarrah von Lintel, Theresa Luisotti, and Rose Shoshana. The dynamic panel discussion will be moderated by journalist Jori Finkel, who has chronicled the city’s expanding art market for multiple news outlets. Over the course of the last fifty years, Los Angeles has established itself as a city with a vibrant photography community that is home to important public collections, top-tier art schools, and many galleries that regularly showcase the wide-ranging scope of the medium. The LA photography market has evolved considerably over the period in which these three formidable women have operated their respective businesses. Each has been at the forefront of major trends and have been responsible for single handedly establishing the careers of photographers who are now part of the canon.
This wide-ranging conversation will bring to the fore their individual experiences, explore the challenges and opportunities of working in Los Angeles, and will present insights about how the field has changed over the years.
PAC LA recently launched its free public event series—Year of the Woman—with support from Eastman LA, celebrating notable women in fine art photography. Future events in this series will include a keynote lecture by a celebrated female photographer this fall, and Women Photography Conservators at the end of the year.
