ceramic vessels, drawings and photographs and video by sibling artists Sachi and Louie Moskowitz,
grandchildren of the venerable Venice-based ceramicists Magdalena Suarez Frimkess (age 95) and the
late Michael Frimkess (87).
MADE TO LAST, opening Friday, June 13 and running through July 27, marks the first-time
artists Sachi and Louie Moskowitz exhibit together. This show bridges their family artistic legacy with
distinct visual languages shaped by rural and urban California, historical memory and contemporary
storytelling. The title MADE TO LAST is borrowed from a quote by their late father, Stewart
Moskowitz, a celebrated airbrush painter. It speaks to both the enduring nature of handcrafted art and the
generational transmission of creative instinct within their family. The exhibit is an homage to their
creative family and many of the ceramic vases mourn and pay tribute to the losses of Topanga (their
childhood home) and PCH icons after the recent fires, including the Reel Inn, the Malibu Scenic highway
signs, Topanga Ranch Motel and more beloved landmarks – shaping and preserving culture through
clay.
“Given that my grandparents are ceramicists I thought I would try it out beyond making little
things here and there when I’d go to their house,
” says Sachi. She works in a limited palette of blue
and white that recalls Delftware and Chinese porcelain. Moskowitz’s vessels are also reminiscent of
her grandparents’ approach in their wide variety of subjects, ranging from quotations from Artemisia
Gentileschi’s Judith Slaying Holofernes (1612–13) to references to Moskowitz’s own life and
dreams.”

Sachi and Louie work in vastly different mediums—ceramic sculpture and analog photography—
however, their practices both reflect a grounded reverence for place, memory, and family. MADE TO
LAST becomes a tribute to legacy as much as a declaration of their own emergence as artists in dialogue
with the past while breaking new ground.
About the Artists:
Sachi Moskowitz (b. 1989, Los Angeles) creates allegorical ceramic works that reflect on femininity,
animal kinship, and cyclical mystery, drawing inspiration from moon phases, myth, and themes of rebirth,
with traditional vessel forms. She often handpaints idyllic landscapes taken from photographs of her hikes
cleansing, and transcendence. Coming from a line of ceramists and painters, Sachi was raised in Topanga
Canyon and Humboldt County, California. She later returned to L.A. where she deepened her connection
to ceramics while caring for her great-grandmother, Celia Frimkess. After earning her BFA in Sculpture
from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2017, she honed a distinctive voice that blends painterly glazes
across California and speaks to issues of female sovereignty and her own fascination with animal kinship
Sachi has exhibited at One Trick Pony and Noon Projects
(Los Angeles), The Ranch (Montauk, NY), Over the Influence, Charlie James Gallery, Maison Lune and
recently at The Salon by by NADA(Paris) with Galerie Lefebvre & Fils and Untitled Miami with Anna
Erickson Presents. Her evocative storytelling continues to gain recognition, including a debut New York
solo show Dorsal View at Half Gallery Annex and a featured booth with Anna Erickson Presents at
as a source of comfort, stability and guidance. Untitled Art Fair in Miami. She’s a steward of a family legacy that has attracted more attention in recent
years. She has also completed collaborative works using unfinished ceramic forms created decades ago by
her grandfather Michael Frimkess. https://www.sachimoskowitz.com/
Louie “Satchmo” Moskowitz is a photographer rooted in Southern Humboldt County, California. His
black-and-white images—shot on a Leica and printed by hand in his darkroom—capture the quiet rituals,
rugged landscapes, and changing spirit of rural life. His work documents everyday intimacy with deep
care, ranging from fog-drenched highways to portraits of locals and intimate domestic scenes. Louie’s
self-published photo book, Built to Last, chronicles life in Humboldt, and his photographs also appear in
Growland, a novel written by his mother, Lelia Moskowitz.
