Please join Chenhung Chen and Javier Proenza as they discuss her oeuvre, inspiration, and her latest exhibition at DON’T LOOK Projects.
Javier Proenza, the son of UN diplomats, was influenced by diverse cultures while growing up in Washington, D.C., Costa Rica, and Rome, where a deep appreciation for art and history developed. His time in Miami shaped his ‘Florida Man’ persona. Proenza’s artwork—encompassing painting, sculpture, video, and installation—explores the absurdities of contemporary life. In 2018, he devised a scheme to have artists teach him for free, disguising it as a podcast called What’s My Thesis? This podcast continues to thrive today and is far from fraudulent.
Chenhung Chen’s solo exhibition By the Company They Keep is on view at DON’T LOOK Projects through Saturday, May 3.
