TAG, The Artists Gallery, is proud to present the 6th annual “LA Open.” The opening reception and awards presentation will take place between 5-9 pm on Saturday Jan. 13th Juror Kristine Schomaker, a curator, art business coach, publisher of Art and Cake art magazine, and multidisciplinary artist, chose 78 artworks from 62 artists from more than 600 submissions received from the greater Los Angeles area. This exhibition inaugurates TAG’s calendar year by exhibiting and celebrating the creativity of local artists. The exhibition includes works in all mediums from students, emerging, and established mid-career artists. The focus of this exhibition is to illustrate that artists are strong and impactful when they come together to facilitate dialogue amongst varied styles of works. To this end, the viewer and artist alike are encouraged to make connections between selected pieces and artists, revealing meanings that are sacred and unique to each viewer..

The event begins at 3PM and is free and open to the community. The afternoon will begin with esteemed artist, educator and curator Kristine Schomaker guiding us through TAG’s annual L.A. Open exhibition. Guests will learn about Schomaker’s process in selecting artworks, vision, challenges and inspiration. Additionally, the exhibition’s “Best of Show” artists will be invited to speak about their works. L.A. Open features diverse artworks from 60 Los Angeles artists. Schomaker selected the artworks from over 600 submissions. This discussion will begin at 3PM.
Following, fine art photographer Eric Renard will guide guests through Small Things, a juried exhibition on view in TAG’s Sky Gallery. This showcase, juried by Renard & Kenneth Rooney, is a collaboration with the California Art League. Selected artworks highlight the small, precise details that are often overlooked. Ornate brushstrokes, shadow, highlight, texture, color and composition are emphasized elements throughout the exhibition. Selected artists will also speak about their involvement and artistic journeys.
