The Middle Room is pleased to present “Monstrous Mothers,” a solo exhibition by San Diego-based artist Alexandra Carter, from November 11 to December 9, 2023. Carter’s maternal figurative paintings on translucent matte drafting film explore visceral sensations of the female body through themes of fertility and maternity, inspired by folklore and mythology. While referencing her own body and experience, Carter also draws from her upbringing on a cranberry farm in New England, as well as literature, dance, and costume.
