FAFF 2023 OPENS THIS SATURDAY JUNE 10!

World’s Largest Art Film Festival
Over 40 Films from Around the Art World

The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art (ViCA) is proud to present the 10th Annual Fine Arts Film Festival (FAFF), starting at noon on June 10 at Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Venice, and June 15-22, 2023 streaming on Vimeo. Beyond Baroque is at 681 Venice Blvd. in Venice, CA. FAFF – the world’s largest art film festival – will present over 40 films from across the globe. Over half of the films were directed or produced by women, and POC either appear as subjects or directed/produced/wrote for a third of the films.

A few examples of the rest of the packed in-person Saturday lineup are feature documentaries MARCEL DUCHAMP COMES TO PASADENA, by David Grabias (US), about how the father of conceptual art came to mount a retrospective show in what was then an artistic backwater, THE VOYAGE by Itamar Wexler (Israel), an intense portrait of a generations-old family secret, and STANDING STRONG: ELIZABETH CATLETT by Kevin J. Kelley (US), which tells the story of this influential pioneer of the Black Arts movement. Short documentary films were also a strong category this year, with TAYSIR BATNIJI: NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT by Aimen Jan (Qatar), which taps into the Palestinian artist’s work as a resistance to war, TATSUMI ORIMOTO: A COSMIC CHAOS by David Bickerstaff (UK), about the world-renowned Japanese artist’s very personal work, and THE BLOOM by Jody Xiong (China), where we see disabled participants create an art installation, using just their EEG brain wave records, for display at the 2022 Winter Paralympic in Beijing.
