Composed over the course of a year, this body of work grapples with the fragmented procession of life unfolding in real time. Lamentations and loss. Disillusion and disbelief. Acquiescence and perseverance. Once familiar worlds now inverted, are revealed through looking glass stitches. The work of the hand – single strands – fragile grounds…..the steadfast strength of worn things. A year of life, comprised of A Thousand Past Days.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Michelle Kingdom studied drawing and painting in college, earning a BA degree in fine art from UCLA. As a self-taught embroidery artist, Michelle has been quietly creating figurative narratives in thread for two decades. Upon exhibiting her work and revealing it to the world she garnered an immediate following with her works going viral and published in several magazines. She has begun to exhibit her work in museums and galleries nationally, and her embroideries are held in private collections internationally. When not busy stitching, Michelle teaches children and lives in Burbank, CA.
