Justin N. Kim’s show, From Me to You in Different Places and Memories, features paintings from his Maps series representing various locations around the city of Los Angeles that are of significance to the artist along with abstract pieces from his series Bigger Than Myself, both of which stem from ideas of connection and interconnection. The paintings are his way of paying homage to Los Angeles and the people in it while being a participating citizen of the city and its ecosystem.
Both bodies of paintings, Bigger Than Myself and Maps, set to question and explore what it means to contribute and participate in the greater human experience in different ways. The collection of Los Angeles map paintings and somewhat monochromatic abstract pieces manifest, in physical form, the complicated connections of shared common experiences in navigating this extraordinary metropolis as it exists in physical form and in our memories and dreams.
