“Gorgeous Drag,” is an online solo exhibition of work by Los Angeles-based fine art photographer Elizabeth Waterman. Presented by London gallery Albumen and its director Stephan Schmid, the show features previously unseen images from a prescient body of work Waterman shot in 2014-2016 when she was living and working in New York City. The portfolio captures the City’s burgeoning drag scene, particularly in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn – including the groundbreaking festival “Bushwig,” which has its 11th annual iteration this fall. It was a scene that skyrocketed the careers of Sasha Velour, Aquaria, Scarlet Envy, and others. “Gorgeous Drag” may be viewed at: https://albumen-gallery.com/exhibitions/drag-queens/.
For the closing week of the show, there will be a special livestream event on Thursday Ocrober 20 from 12noon – 1PM U.S. Pacific Time (20:00 to 21:00 GMT). A portion of proceeds from print and book sales during the closing event and through October 4th will benefit InterPride, a non-profit organization that brings together Pride networks and individual Pride organizations around the world, contributing to the global coordination of Pride efforts. All continents are represented in their membership, which numbers more than 400 organizations in more than 70 countries. Equal rights for LGBTQIA communities and advancing global Pride communities are central to the purpose and work of InterPride.
In addition to Waterman and Schmid, panelists will include Madonna Cacciatore, Global Project Manager of Fund Development & Partnerships with InterPride; radio and TV talk show host Michelle Meow, who will moderate the livestream.
