Conceived by LA-native Jazz Guetta, Stopped Motion is an original exhibition of paintings, sketches and videos that come together to embody the wonder of classic animation.
Guetta carefully created each work using the principles of the collection’s namesake.
A stroke, frozen in time and space. A brief pause and moment of reflection. Followed by another. Then another.
And, driven by the belief that the process is as important as the product, he captured this approach across his two dozen plus pieces via original video shorts (which will also be on display).
Duality is present in every layer of Stopped Motion, which combines the grit of spray paint and the purity of white canvas, as well as discordant-yet-complementary characteristics of the collection’s three genres:
Contenders – their tenacity and grit contra to grace and elegance
Competition – its pride and style contra to humility and respect
Creatures – their killer instinct contra to raw beauty
