“Resurgence of the Goddess”
Artist’s Statement of Elaine Carreon Hollows:
From the beginning of my creative journey, I, Elaine Carreon Hollows, have often painted florals
and female figures. For me, such feminine-related forms symbolize the Goddess, the
mythological feminine power whose attributes include creativity, compassion, gentleness,
inspired nonlinear thinking, intuition, and motherly nurturing. Rational, logical patriarchal
society has long tried to stifle and control the feminine, fearful of her mysterious powers.
Recent times have seen a resurgence and renewed awareness of Goddess energy, which has
empowered women to fight for their rights and equality. This struggle continues to the present
time, where some men and even some women are seeking to take away hard-won feminine
rights. The harder they push, the more the Goddess energy will rise up to empower women to
resist patriarchal dominance.
I am not saying that the feminine is good and the masculine is bad since, according to Carl Jung,
we all have aspects of both in our psyche. I contend that the ancient patriarchal need to control
the feminine is unhealthy and imbalanced for everyone. A balance of power will not diminish
either masculine or feminine, but will bring them into harmonious unity.
